1 Corinthians 14:7-8 NKJV

"The Sound of The Church"

1 Corinthians 14:7-8 NKJV

7 Even things without life, whether flute or harp, when they make a sound, unless they make a distinction in the sounds, how will it be known what is piped or played?
8 For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle?

  • I believe that everyone here will agree that every sound carries some sort of message.

Isaiah 13:4 NKJV

4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains,Like that of many people!
A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together!
The Lord of hosts musters The army for battle.

  • If I look at God’s Word, it seemed to me that sound has always played a vital role in bringing over a message.

John 3:8 NKJV

8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

  • Jesus is saying that every one that are born of the Spirit, is suppose to make a sound, just like the wind is making a sound. All of us, which are born of the Spirit, are suppose to bring forth a sound that carries a message.

1 Peter 1:8-9 NKJV

8 whom having not [a]seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

Words to and Old Hymn

  • It is joy unspeakable and full of glory,
    Full of glory, full of glory;
It is joy unspeakable and full of glory,
Oh, the half has never yet been told.

Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 [a]gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

  • “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."

John 16:33 NLT

33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

  • Some say that people face the effects of spiritual warfare every day, such as pain, struggle, and defeat. However, people may not realize that they are fighting against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places, and that they need to recognize this to begin living in victory.

Psalms 126:1 NKJV

1 When the Lord brought back [a]the captivity of Zion, We were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing. Then they said among the [b]nations,“The Lord has done great things for them.”
3 The Lord has done great things for us,And we are glad.

Exodus 32:17-18 NKJV

17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.”
18 But he said:“It is not the noise of the shout of victory,
Nor the noise of the cry of defeat,But the sound of singing I hear.”

  • Unfortunately the sound of the church today is not a sound of victory anymore.

Psalms 137:1-6 NKJV

1 By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yea, we wept When we remembered Zion.
2 We hung our harps Upon the willows in the midst of it.
3 For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song, And those who plundered us requested mirth, Saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4 How shall we sing the Lord’s song In a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand forget its skill!
6 If I do not remember you,Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth— If I do not exalt Jerusalem Above my chief joy.

  • I preached a message years ago,”Don’t Lose Your Song”  Many people have, let us sing a note one more time.

Jeremiah 14:22 NLT

22 Can any of the worthless foreign gods send us rain?
Does it fall from the sky by itself?
No, you are the one, O Lord our God!
Only you can do such things.
So we will wait for you to help us.

Nehemiah 4:13-15 NKJV

13 Therefore I positioned men behind the lower parts of the wall, at the openings; and I set the people according to their families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows. 14 And I looked, and arose and said to the nobles, to the leaders, and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.” 15 And it happened, when our enemies heard that it was known to us, and that God had brought their plot to nothing, that all of us returned to the wall, everyone to his work.

  • “Hope” is commonly used to mean a wish : its strength is the strength of the person's desire. But in the Bible hope is the confident expectation of what God has promised and its strength is in His faithfulness.

What does the word Hope mean?

Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology - Hope. Hope [N] [T] [E] To trust in, wait for, look for, or desire something or someone; or to expect something beneficial in the future

Joel 2:1 NKJV

1 Blow the [a]trumpet in Zion,
And sound an alarm in My holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble;
For the day of the Lord is coming,
For it is at hand:
